Student assistant for the communication unit

20 hours per week (one-year contract)

The Organization

The IFRC Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support (PS Centre) is a delegated function of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, hosted by Danish Red Cross. It aims to improve mental health and psychosocial well-being (MHPSS) through operational assistance, capacity development of National Societies, competence development of staff and volunteers, knowledge generation and knowledge sharing, and communication and advocacy. The PS Centre is a small and lively Centre with an international atmosphere.

While we are ambitious in our wish to support the 194 National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent worldwide and influence the global MHPSS agenda we also pride ourselves in maintaining a warm and supportive team environment. The purpose of the position is to assist the communication officer in the daily work of – primarily - online communication. The communication function within the PS Centre is a support function, the unit supports the team members in their work of psychosocial support to IFRC national committees and advocacy on mental health and psychosocial support in emergency operations. The student assistant will be involved in all tasks related to external and internal online communication.

Key tasks

  • Compiling and distributing newsletters
  • Web content administration
  • social media administration
  • Ad hoc tasks and support for the team as needed.



  • A solid understanding of online communication
  • Experienced in creating and distributing newsletters through Mailchimp
  • Experienced in web content administration through WordPress
  • In-depth understanding of social media administration
  • Experience with SEO
  • Experience working with Google Analytics or other web traffic analytics tools
  • Experienced MS Office user – Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe programs: Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign
  • An analytical mindset
  • Fluency in English written and spoken.


  • Experience working in a humanitarian non-government organization
  • Experience with digital design
  • Experience with visual communication
  • Experience with Mental Health and psychosocial support in a humanitarian context
  • Experience working in a fast-paced communication unit with tight deadlines, and ever-changing tasks and priorities.
