Training Advisor

The Danish Red Cross is looking for a colleague with a strong background in training, learning design, and facilitation, who can lead the implementation of trainings and contribute to the development of standards, formats and learning methodologies. And help technical specialist in training international staff.

The training advisor will be part of the Disaster and Crisis unit but work across the International Operation. The Disaster and Crisis unit sets the frame and direction for DRC’s emergency response, maintains operational surge capacity to assist countries in acute emergencies and manages DRC’s emergency funds. It leads and coordinates the organization of training and ensures that the International Department has a strong efficient set-up to carry out training. The unit consist of 25 colleagues in four teams: Global response, Supply chain, Warehouse and Training & Rosters.

You will become part of the Training and Roster team. The team sets the global frame for DRC on training, this includes policy, ambition, planning and implementation. The team ensures a continues focus on and delivery of highly relevant trainings for the Danish Red Cross staff working internationally.

Responsibilities

As a training advisor you will play an essential role ensuring high quality training of Danish Red Cross staff working internationally. You will advise on training modalities and how to ensure that professional staff learn and transform learning into their daily work. And you will work on further developing DRC’s approach to training with regards to formats, didactics, and trainings methodologies, ensuring impactful learning experiences.

As a training advisor we don’t expect that you know our operation or have worked internationally. We do expect that you are a specialist in training and adult learning, who can ensure that week-long trainings are running smoothly by you facilitating that technical colleagues are using engaging training methodologies, keeping the focus on the participants and putting their needs in the center. Participants at the trainings are colleagues that need to be prepared for missions, are on mission or HQ staff.

The training advisor will act as a focal point on digital learning. Some of our trainings are face-to-face but we would like to move more trainings to online learning formats using digital platforms for flexible on-demand learning. You will support colleagues on digital learning tools and give advice on the choice of training solutions; identifying whether online, face-to-face, or blended formats are suitable for specific training purposes. Furthermore, you will take the lead adapting and optimizing existing training materials and manuals for online delivery, creating engaging, interactive learning experiences.

Tasks and key assignments

  • Advise and support technical colleagues on development of trainings including learning objectives, training curriculum, methodologies, and choice of delivery format, ensuring engaging and relevant trainings with a strong focus on learner outcomes.
  • Advise colleagues on development of online and blended learning formats, identifying the best formats and training solutions for DRC trainings.
  • Organise and facilitate DRC trainings like: Emergency Team leader training, Project management training and IMPACT (Red Cross mandatory training prior to deployment) in collaboration with DRC technical colleagues.
  • Support the team coordinator in setting the frame and strategic direction for training in DRC.
  • Contribute to the development of new and existing trainings in regards of coherence, didactics, methodologies, and choice of delivery format.
  • Design and implement an evaluation framework focusing on quality, relevance, and impact of DRC trainings and ensure that learnings and best practices are shared with relevant stakeholders in the organisation.

Your profile

In this role you will apply and develop your talents within facilitation and learning experience design. You thrive working in an international environment collaborating with people with diverse cultural and professional background.

We expect that you have

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working with training design and evaluation.
  • In-depth knowledge and proven application of adult learning theory, experience-based-learning, and participatory training methods.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills and confidence in leading participatory online and face-to-face trainings.
  • Experience with identifying learner needs and how best to approach the needs via training.
  • Experience working with online facilitation, digital learning design and blended learning including the ability to select appropriate learning formats for specific trainings.
  • Ability to analyze and understand organizational needs and translate these into learning solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative working style and experience from working with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Effective project management skills and a positive and flexible approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills in English.

Conditions and application

Start date will be latest 1st of January 2023. The position is a full-time position of 37 working hours per week based at DRC HQ in Copenhagen. Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective staff agreement with AC/HK, depending on experience and qualifications. You will refer to the Head of Disaster and Crisis Response.

Please notice that this position requires travel activity in relation to the delivery of in-person trainings, approximately 4-6 times a year. The trainings mainly take part in Denmark.
